Summer Fun

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Jon and I have a busy month ahead of us.  We are either hosting guests or visiting other states as guests for the next four weekends straight.  Fun times!  The dog days of summer are fast approaching, and I pray with them come days of relaxation and childlike fun.

My latest Good Housekeeping magazine had an article called "30 Ways to Make This Your Best Summer Ever" that got me so excited for the next few months.  I immediately started dreaming of my own ideas and was soon lost in the thoughts of snow cones and fire flies.  Here are a few things I plan to take advantage of this summer.  And I hope you will too!

Enjoy the grass.  Walk in the grass with no shoes on.  Play tag.  Lay on it and stare up at the stars.

Keep it simple.  A blanket, projector and a backyard make the perfect backyard movie theater.  Invite over some friends or have a simple date night for two.

Eat outside.  Move your dining room table outside.  Or a get a permanent one to enjoy all summer long.

Savor the cold stuff.  Take advantage of the ice cream man and snow cone hut.  They'll be gone before you know it.

Go local.  Visit your local farmers market for the freshest produce and blooms.

Splash.  Whether it's at a pool, lake or beach, jump in and make a splash.

Set up camp.  Nothing says summer quite like s'mores, tents and bonfires...even if they are in your backyard.

Hit the road.  Not all vacations require passports or even plane tickets.  Take a road trip to some new place.

Pack a lunch.  Enjoy lunch "out" at your favorite park.
